Projects
I've worked on a lot of small game project over the years, mainly with Game Maker. I also do some level designing now and then in the Hammer editor for Valve's Source engine. You'll find a lot of finished (and abandoned) work here!Click an image to view project details.

DESCRIPTIONAtom Collector was the first game I made in Game Maker. It was a small topdown game. Your purpose is to collect the atoms and avoid different types of monsters. Once you collect all atoms you can move to the next level. Simple, yet fun. A year after the first game I created Atom Collector 2. Same concept, more polished. The download contains both games! | YEAR2006 STATUSReleased DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONThis game is based on the Madness series by Krinkels. The series is known for its incredible display of voilence, dark humour, and absurd plot. I attempted to fit it all in a RPG-ish game, but eventually gave up because I lacked the motiviation to continue. Nonetheless, a small demo was released.Notes: * I'm still proud by the amount of real-life guns I drew for this game using MSpaint. I used this website for reference pictures. * Main thing that stopped me from working on this, is that I couldn't think of a good battle system. | YEAR2007 STATUSAbandoned DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONThis game was developed in 2006/2007 as part of the Dutch Make-a-Game contest that year. It's an action-platformer with some educational elements to teach kids about computers. In the contest finale this game managed to get the participants price, meaning all the other participants liked this game most.Trivia / notes: * The contest prize was an Ipod Nano. * The game's entirely in Dutch. * L.E.I.P stands for "Leuk Educatief Informatica Programma" (Fun Educational Informatics Program) | YEAR2007 STATUSReleased DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONSimple yet fun game I made in a lazy summer mood. There's an ongoing stream of enemies coming from the left, and you need to command your tanks to shoot em by clicking on the enemy. Contains three levels, each a little more difficult than the last. Graphics are from the very addicting strategy game Advance Wars. | YEAR2007 STATUSReleased DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONVoid Machina was a game inspired by free-roam space games like Freelancer. Although I didn't aim for a complete free-roaming world (I knew full well I couldn't pull that off), I still wanted things like infinite space and free-to-go-wherever-you-want. Infinite space was already implemented in the small demo I made, including asteroid fields. I also managed to make destroyable ship system; enemy ships could be blown into smaller pieces and added a more strategic element to the space battles. This project was eventually abandoned because I, again, lacked motivation to continue. | YEAR2008 STATUSAbandoned DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONExpaNova was made using XNA Game Studio as part of an university project. I worked in a team of 8 people; two fellow students from my study, and five Game Design students from the Utrecht School of the Arts. The game is meant to be a sort of casual game that gives the player a relaxing experience. The goal is to keep the central core in balance by shooting three different types of elements at it. Every element needs to be equally present in the core to avoid making it explode. The longer the game runs, the harder it gets, until eventually there's no stopping it. After the game's over, your score is calculated by the amount of elements that reached the core. Notes: * Our game was chosen as the second best at the end of the project, which gave us the oppertunity to showcase our game at the Dutch Festival of Games 2009. * All the games that were made during this project can be found here. Credits: * Edwin van den Houdt (TU Delft) * Jerry de Swart (TU Delft) * Joeri van der Velden (TU Delft, me) * Daan Boon (HKU) * Bjorn Spies (HKU) * Berry IJmker (HKU) * Alexander Mulder (HKU) * Selma Oors (HKU) | YEAR2009 STATUSReleased DOWNLOADDirect |

DESCRIPTIONInfected Wars is a gamemode for Garry's Mod, a mod for a mod so to say. The gameplay is a mixture of Counter-Strike (and zombie mods), Quake, Crysis and elements from other gamemodes. There's an undead team and a human team. The humans need to survive for a specified amount of time while the undead need to kill them before the time or their reinforcements run out. Both teams are split into different classes, each with their own abilities.Notes: * The latest public version of the gamemode is v1.11. * The gamemode was featured in the PC Gamer UK in the December 2008 issue. * The official server for the gamemode can be found at basilios.mr-green.nl:27016. You will need to have the Steam service installed, and own a copy of Garry's Mod. It's also adviced to have Counter-Strike: Source installed since a lot of its content is used. * More detailed information can be found in this topic on the Garry's Mod forums. * A gameplay demonstration video can be found here (be sure to watch in HD!). | YEAR2008 STATUSReleased DOWNLOAD |

DESCRIPTIONCrash 'n Smash is a Garry's Mod gamemode developed for the Fretta contest. Unfortunately, even though I was very satisfied with how it turned out, it didn't end up with the top five finalists. The game is set on a large field littered with breakable objects. The job for each of the two teams is to get the most objects on their side of the field. However, most of these objects can't be reached alone and require you to be launched by your own teammates! More in-depth info on the gameplay, like the weapons and powerups, can be found on the Moddb page. A gameplay instructions video can be found here. | YEAR2010 STATUSReleased DOWNLOAD |
